Farmingdale, NY - 54-holes later day two of competition at the Polo Golf Junior Classic is complete. The morning kicked off with the final round of pool play, followed by playoffs to determine who would move out of each pool in the event of ties.

In each division only one pool went to a sudden death stroke play playoff to decide who would move on. In both pools it was a 3 for 1 playoff.

In the Boys Division, Group E finished with a three-way playoff between PJ Maybank of Cheboygan, Michigan, Jack Roberts of Saint Marys, Georgia, and Will Hartman of Marvin, North Carolina, to decide who would move on.

The playoff began on No. 1 and moved forward from there. Roberts opened with a tough draw to the left which found him in the tall fescue to the left of No. 1. He was unable to free the ball from the fescue with his next stroke and conceded the hole.

Maybank and Hartman took the playoff the distance with it being decided on the par 3 No. 3. Both boys had looks for birdies, but ultimately Hartman drained it to move on out of Pool E.

In the Girls Division, Group D also went to a playoff between Catherine Rao of Camarillo, California, Lynn Lim of Gallatin, Tennessee, and Elise Lee of Irvine, California.

All three girls hit great first shots off the tee finding themselves in the fairway of No. 1. Tough second shots by Rao and Lim found themselves off the green, while Lee made it on the green in two. Rao and Lim putted in for bogey, with Lee finishing out for par.

Lee moved on out of Pool D for the Girls Division.

About Bethpage State Park Golf Courses - Black Course

The move of the Polo Golf Junior Classic in 2022 to Bethpage Black marks the first time the event is being played on a public course. The Black Course is rich in tradition having hosted three major championships, two FedEx Cup playoff events and the upcoming 2025 Ryder Cup.

The course which opened in 1936 as part of the Depression Era public-works project that build Bethpage State Park burst onto the scene in 2002 with its first hosting of the U.S. Open. It was this year that a young Tiger Woods, who won the Polo Golf Junior Classic in 1991, captured his second U.S. Open title. The Black Course again hosted the U.S. Open in 2009 where AJGA alumni Lucas Glover took home the title. The ‘extremely difficult course’ recommended ‘only for highly skilled golfers’ also hosted the 2012 and 2016 FedEx Cup playoff event, The Barclays. AJGA alumni Brooks Koepka won the 2019 PGA Championship when the course hosted its first major in ten years.
