My Scotty Cameron Moment

Each week, the AJGA honors the boy and girl junior golfers who shoot the lowest round during the final tournament round. Each of these players will be presented with one of this year's new Scotty Cameron putter covers in silver or gold. In this feature, we will hear from the players each week who take home this honor and what helped them get there.

I.R.I./Srixon Mixed Team Championship hosted by Jim Furyk

“We went four holes without a birdie. I made a 30-foot putt for birdie on No. 13. The ball hit the back of the hole hard, popped up and fell into the hole. It helped us as we had three birdies in our last six holes,” said Whitney French of Laguna Niguel, Calif., as she teamed with Cory Siegfried of Wayne, Pa., to shoot 7-under-par 64 in the four-ball format of the I.R.I./Srixon Mixed Team Championship hosted by Jim Furyk.

“I had not made any putts outside 15 feet all day. I hit a gap wedge to 15 feet on No. 16 and made birdie. The putt broke a foot from right to left,” said Siegfried.

Yang shot a 7-under-par 64 during the final round at the I.R.I./Srixon Mixed Team Championship hosted by Jim Furyk with her partner C.J. Kim.

“We started the day with an eagle on the par-4 first hole. I hit a full sand wedge from 110 yards. It was a blind shot where I could not see the bottom of the hole. My playing partner’s parents told me it went in the hole,” said C.J. Kim of Chandler, Ariz., as he and Julie Yang of Phoenix, shot 7-under-par 64 during Sunday's final round.

“On No. 18, C.J. hit his tee shot close to the water hazard. The ball was above his feet and 170 yards away from the green. He went for the par-5 in two and knocked it on the green and we made birdie,” said Yang.

“The first two rounds I had been hitting my tee shot too far left. I aimed further right. I had 120 yards left for my second shot on No. 18. I hit a pitching wedge to six feet and I made the putt for eagle,” said Andrew Perez of Oxnard, Calif., as he and teammate Ani Gulugian of Irvine, Calif. carded a 7-under-par 64 at Arizona National Golf Club.

“On No. 12 I hit a 7-iron from 138 yards to 10 feet and made birdie. The downhill putt broke hard to the left. It pumped me up as we kept hitting solid shots and playing well the rest of the round,” said Gulugian.

Medicus Preseason Junior in the Chicago Southland

“Heading into the final hole, I had a one-shot lead. After I hit my drive, I thought I had a nice, easy 9-iron in from the fairway and could two-putt for the win," said Matt Hageman, champion at the Medicus Preseason Junior in the Chicago Southland, who shot a 6-under-par 66 during the final round. "But I got a little quick on the swing and yanked it left of the green. There was a little ridge in my line and my hands were shaking, so I knew it would be risky to hit a low shot. I just slowed myself down and chipped it high, it rolled up to three feet and I sank it for the win.”
