WEBSTER, N.Y. – The AJGA recognized the AJGA Preview at Webster as recipient of the 2023 Preview of the Year.

This is one of two 2023 tournament awards for the AJGA Preview at Webster, with Debby Murphy winning Golf Professional of the Year. They are the first two tournament awards in the event’s three-year history.

Each year, the AJGA presents awards to the tournaments with the best individual hospitality, Junior-Am fundraising, charitable giving and volunteer base. Awards are also given to the events with engaged media and social media participation. Finally, the AJGA recognizes the year’s most outstanding golf professional, superintendent and golf course executive, as well as the most game-changing event, best new event, best Preview Series tournament, best Ninja Junior All-Star Series tournament, best Invitational and overall tournament of the year. Tournament awards for the 2023 season will be presented on-site at the 2024 tournament.

AJGA Preview Series events are designed specifically for AJGA members who have not yet been accepted to an AJGA tournament. Preview Series events offer members the opportunity to build Performance Based Entry status before application deadlines arrive for summer Open and AJGA Junior All-Star Series events.

Last year’s Preview was a highlight of our season and Webster Golf Club being recognized as the AJGA Preview of the Year is truly an honor. The event gives our juniors the opportunity to watch and interact with the AJGA players and provides them with the encouragement to elevate their own games.
Debby Murphy, Director of Operations, Webster Golf Club

The AJGA Preview at Webster delivered a memorable experience for all 96 players and their families. Prior to the tournament, host venue Webster Golf Club encouraged all players to practice as much as they wanted and gave them use of their indoor golf simulator facilities. AJGA tournament staff were given use of the indoor simulator facilities for free during tournament week, with golf clubs provided.

After the first round of the tournament, players, families, tournament staff and the entire Webster community were invited to a celebratory Jamboree with games, food trucks and fireworks. Local junior golfers had the chance to interact with AJGA players through fun challenges on the driving range and in the indoor simulator facilities. Webster Golf Club also held an ice cream social for players after the first round of the tournament.

To bolster the AJGA’s efforts to reduce tournament expenses, the tournament generously donated medics, staff meals and secured private housing for 75% of the tournament staff. Organizers also raised over $9,000 from the community for the event.

We look forward to returning to Webster each year because of how much support this tournament receives from the Golf Club and the community. They go all-out for our juniors, their families and the tournament staff and we’re grateful for their work creating such a meaningful experience for everyone involved.
