Braidech, Surofchek, Cushman tied atop Boys Division

Newell jumps out to three-shot lead

It's a three-way tie for first in the Boys Division after round one of the Colorado Springs Junior by Centura Health. Camden Braidech of Scottsdale, Arizona (pictured above), Luke Cushman of Castle Rock, Colorado, and local product, Carter Surofchek, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, share the lead at 4-under-par 68. The three leaders are members of the Class of 2023. Braidech went bogey free on his day, while Surofchek made six birdies to just two bogeys. Kushman recorded a whopping seven birdies on the day including five on the back nine and three in a row on Nos. 16-18.

Wheaton Ennis of Eagle, Idaho, is in fourth at 3-under-par 69. Grant Yerger of Austin, Texas, and Philippe Yturralde of La Mesa, California, round out the top five with scores of 2-under-par 70 for day one.

Zoe Newell of Oro Valley, Arizona, was the only girl to finish under-par in round one, carding a 3-under-par 69 for the day. Newell's stellar scorecard earned her a three-shot advantage with 18 holes in the books. The class of 2023 member totaled four birdies on her round to just one bogey.

Behind Newell, four golfers are tied for second at even-par 72. Jacqueline Nguyen of Houston; Samantha Olson of Phoenix; Jayden Jevnick of Cave Creek, Arizona, and Nicole Koong of Sammamish, Washington, are all well positioned as Newell's closest chasers heading into round two.
